Jamal Elijio Succumbs to Injury from Drive-by Shooting

Jamal Elijio

Three days after he was shot on the back, Jamal Elijio died while receiving treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  Elijio was standing along with his cousin Justin Richards and a third person, Marquin Drury, on Santa Barbara Street in the south side when they came under fire from someone in a vehicle that drove by. Richard was also injured, but survived the shooting. Word on the street is that Elijio had a confrontation with a rival group, and that cost him his life. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

A mother’s intuition upon hearing a volley of gunshots in the distance led her to the scene of a shooting on Santa Barbara Street, not knowing that her son and nephew, along with a third person, were victims of a drive-by attack.  Thirty-one-year-old Justin Richards, his cousin Jamal Elijio and Marquin Dury were all standing on the street sometime around eight o’clock on Thursday night when a vehicle drove up on them.  A spray of bullets succeeded.
