A Watchman is Shot Inside Security Booth at Excelsior High School

Rodman Welch

Within days of taking up a job as a security officer, Rodman Welch was shot. The stevedore was eating while on duty at Excelsior High School when he came under fire on Saturday night. A gunman targeted Welch as he sat inside the security booth. The bullet hit him on the face injuring his jaw. Welch’s mother could not point to a motive, but says there may be a situation that she is not aware of. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

A stevedore who took a part-time job as a watchman at Excelsior High School was shot while at his post over the weekend.  Rodman Welch had only just taken up the job a few days earlier when he was targeted by a lone gunman inside the security booth on the school compound.  He was shot in the face at point blank range.

“On Saturday, October 5th, 2019, police responded to a shooting incident at the security booth at Excelsior High School.  Upon their arrival they were informed that a male person had been shot.  This person was escorted to the K.H.M.H. and he was identified as Rodman Welch.  He received one gunshot injury to the face.  He is presently admitted at the K.H.M.H. in a critical condition undergoing treatment.”

According to Welch’s mother, the round that struck him in the face has left the thirty-three-year old with a broken jaw.

“Nothing to suggest if he had a firearm so they came for that?”

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Nothing to suggest that he was just doing security duties at that time.”

Could Welch’s shooting be the result of a previous incident in which there was an altercation with someone?  His mother says she has no idea of a prior misunderstanding but wouldn’t swear for her injured son.
