Minor Injured in Shooting on South Creek, Belize City

A minor is currently admitted in a stable condition at the K.H.M.H. after he was shot on Sunday night near South Creek Bridge.  Sixteen-year-old Emory Reyes was among a group of persons standing on Ramsey Street in south side Belize City when several gunshots rang out. The group scattered, but Reyes was injured. He was rushed to the hospital shortly after. Police say that while the investigation is ongoing, it is the second shooting that occurred in that area and they have since put in place checkpoints to mitigate the gun violence in the area.

Hilberto Romero

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“A minor, Emory Reyes, sixteen years, received a gunshot injury to the right arm. He reported that he was in that particular area when he was approached by a male person who fired a single shot and he received that single gunshot injury.”

Duane Moody

“Sir do you know whether the minor was the intended target in this shooting?”

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“That investigation is ongoing at this time. We know that he was in that area when he was shot.”

Duane Moody

“Sir this area is close to where the shooting of the security guard took place, all of that. Is police look at the fact that gun violence is increasing in this area of south side?”

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Yes, we had those two shooting incidents and so we are addressing this issue. We have two checkpoints not far from that area and other patrols that are within that area so definitely we will look into that.”
