Works on Philip Goldson Highway Not Looking Good

Francis Fonseca

A portion of the Philip Goldson Highway within the city’s limit is being rehabilitated. If you are entering Belize City through the north you might have some complaints about the conditions of the highway in the last couple of months. Works between miles three and eight on the highway continue but residents along the highway have been bitterly complaining that the highway has begun already breaking up. That specific portion of the highway falls within the Freetown Constituency and today at the Sitting of the House; Area Representative Francis Fonseca highlighted the issue.

Francis Fonseca, Area Representative, Freetown

“The roundabouts are in a terrible situation. The roundabouts are sinking, cracking up, particularly the roundabout at mile three and a half. There is a five hundred foot stretch at mile four on the highway which again is settling multiple structural cracks on the highway. The highway has sifted up to six inches according to the city engineer and settlement, the settlement which was expected to, I think, they had anticipated two or three inches now it’s at eight inches. So, the point of raising it is not to criticize anybody. We understand that with this type of infrastructure you have settlement, but to get something done, to have somebody address it and do something about it especially as they have pointed out before rainy season start because then it will be impossible to address and the problem will only get worse.”
