Prime Minister Barrow Has Decided Who He Supports for Next U.D.P. Leader

When Prime Minister Dean Barrow steps down, the new leader of the United Democratic Party will ascend to the Prime Ministerial position. The U.D.P. has set February ninth 2020 for its National Leadership Convention which will take place at the Belize Civic Center.  The race is between Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber and Belmopan Area Representative John Saldivar. Whoever wins the convention, will become the U.D.P. Leader Elect. When the Prime Minister officially steps down before the next general election, the U.D.P. Leader Elect will become prime minister. PM Barrow told the media that he has made his decision on who he will vote for.

“I don’t expect a third entrant. I think the two declared aspirants will end up being the ones to contest. I will not even publicly disclose who I am going to vote. I already know who I am going to vote and it is a matter which I have spoken to several of my colleagues. But I don’t think that it would be fair for me to publicly say I am supporting one or the other.”
