Agreement Reached; Impasse Broken between K.H.M.H.A. and Workers Union

The K.H.M.H.A. Board and the K.H.M.H. Workers Union have come to an agreement. The parties were at an impasse over several issues including the union’s demand for the removal of Medical Chief of Staff, Doctor Beatriz Thompson.  A statement from the K.H.M.H. reads “The K.H.M.H.A. Board and Union met on Friday, September twenty-seventh where pending issues were aired and a way forward was mutually agreed upon.  The K.H.M.H.A. Board and Management assure the public that it will continue to maintain an environment of mutual respect, due process and good faith as it engages in dialogue with the K.H.M.H.W.U.” The union gave the board seven days to act on the demand or industrial action would have been taken. The letter went unanswered within the period requested and this led to the meeting on Friday. Previously, Union President Lidia Blake Alpuche told News Five that the staff is faced with many issues including unpaid overtime. The union is also fighting for the courts to determine if the staff at the K.H.M.H. is pensionable.
