U.D.P. Chairman Responds to Criticism Following Crude Remarks

Alberto August

Outspoken U.D.P. Chairman Alberto August is under fire for what many believe was an insensitive remark made following the murder of nineteen-year-old Adamir Choc.  The comment came in a recent social media post by August who has been soundly criticized by the Belize Youth Movement and United Women’s Group, arms of the People’s United Party, for its callous nature. The Minister of National Security, John Saldivar, has also distanced himself from August’s comment.  August stands his ground, but made it clear that the United Democratic Party shares its condolences with the family of the deceased young woman whose partially nude body was found in an advanced state of decomposition near the Never Delay Road on September fourteenth.  Here’s what he said about the incident.

Alberto August, Chairman, United Democratic Party

“First of all, let me put on record that the United Democratic Party expresses deep sympathy with the family on the passing of this young girl.  The death of any Belizean, of any person is definitely of concern to our party, especially to the Prime Minister and the Minister of National Security as it pertains to that situation.  But it is so unfortunate that in an effort to seek to explain the situation, the opposition grabbed this thing and of course, it is their job, it is their business to thwart these kinds of information and they brought it out like it’s an attack on the family.  The person to be blamed in regards to this situation is that person who committed this heinous crime and I am hoping that the police will do all within its powers to ensure that this person is brought to justice in the swiftest manner possible, for two reasons.  One, for the nation or for them to get this person off the street and secondly, to ensure that this person does not perpetrate this kind of crime against any other person in this country.”
