A Multi-Stakeholder Approach to Address Dengue

Russell Manzanero

But with the rains starting and school in session, the Ministry of Health is in discussion with other ministries and stakeholders to ensure that the population that is being affected can take necessary changes to prevent additional cases.

Dr. Russell Manzanero, Epidemiologist, Ministry of Health

“From even when we started seeing the first cases and we heard about the increased cases in the region, we actually started to revise plans. From here were reached out to the different health regions. We asked them to start looking at their plans; fortunately for some of them, they actually were already on top of that. But of course, it comes with a lot of prevention, education, public awareness and all of that. You did mention Ministry of Health; what is the Ministry of Health doing. I think for us, we have been working tirelessly with other ministries. The inter-agencies and stakeholders on a whole at the community level, that is the part that we need to engage. The public awareness is there, but a lot of it is being influenced by public responsibility. How do you as a citizen actually take that responsibility to make those changes, adapt and get what we are trying to relay to you? The Ministry of Health is doing its part. We are doing the public awareness, education and everything else. The fogging and when you see the spraying, that is one part of addressing the situation. But a lot has to do with public awareness and public responsibility.”
