Carnival Cruise Lines Reps in Belize Recruiting DJs and Musicians

Representatives from Carnival Cruise Lines arrived in Belize today for a two-day recruitment exercise beginning on Tuesday at nine a.m. at the Radisson Fort George in Belize City. Manager of Live Music Direction for the cruise company, Brett Hedrick says that they have had a number of Belizeans who have worked with the company as disc jockeys and entertainment hosts on board their over two dozen ships across the world. Belizean Alex Dena, who oversees the DJ programme for Carnival Cruise Lines, also arrived today and will be assisting with the recruitment process.  Hedrick shares more about the opportunity being made available for DJs as well as musicians, including steel pan players.

“We are looking for open format style live pro DJs that can host on a microphone high energy, good energy and personality. We are looking for musicians who can bring the fun and the entertainment who can perform, but just not perform, but entertain the crowd. And you will be performing onboard our cruise ship. We knew that this is a prime time of year; we have a lot of foot traffic through your city right now. A lot of our cruise ships come to your country so we know intimately; we come in and out of your ports. My colleague that is here with me, he oversees our whole DJ programme; he is actually from Belize so he had an inside view of what we could recruit for so we are happy to be here.  We are happy to offer contracts on the spot so if they can come; we have twenty-six ships and we are building more. We have some being built right now so our company is getting bigger and bigger and we recruit year round. So there is not really a number that we are looking for; we are just looking for good talent. The pro DJs, if they can bring their own laptops, we will provide all the equipment for you. So we will be interviewing you a little bit and then asking you to do an open format style set for us. We will throw some situational questions at you, just trying to feel out what your personality is and stuff like that. For the musicians, obviously you have to bring your own instruments. I hear there was a really great pan concert last night so any steel pan players that wanna come through, we have a great steel pan programme onboard with a Caribbean soloist. So bring your pan, bring your tracks; we’ll let you plug in to our sound system and play a little bit for us. If you have trumpet, saxophone, trombone players, come bring your horns, I’ll throw some stuff at you and we’ll see if it works.”
