Troy Hyde is granted bail but unable to meet conditions

After a week on remand at the Belize Central Prison, accused of being a member of a gang, thirty-two-year old murder suspect, Troy Dion Hyde, a resident of Belize City, was granted Supreme Court bail in the sum of five thousand dollars. Hyde’s attorney, Norman Rodriguez, put up a fight in the court of Justice Colin Williams, since the DPP’s office had heavy objection to the granting of bail. Up to this evening, Hyde was trying to meet the conditions of bail. In an interview Hyde’s attorney, Norman Rodriguez expressed thanks to the court for allowing bail. The crown’s objection to bail on the gerunds that the defendant was already on bail for a charge of murder but Rodriguez countered that the charge was not connected to his alleged membership in a gang. Rodriguez also argued that the crown did not provide any evidence to substantiate the police investigation into his client. He further added that they had no evidence to show the surveillance of his client’s activities in relation to the L.B.C. Attorney Rodriguez concluded in his interview that he would like to see the police investigate before they drag any person to court. He says that the manner in which the police are arresting and charging citizens is a very serious problem. He also claims that many of his clients have pleaded guilty so they did not have to go to jail. Those who did not plead guilty were remanded.
