Edmond Castro Cagey About Joshua Perdomo’s $40K Write-Off

The government received much backlash after the Barrow Administration, during a sitting of the House of Representatives, tabled a motion through which a forty thousand dollars loan owed by Joshua Perdomo was written-off. Joshua is the son of Cabinet Secretary Carlos Perdomo. The younger Perdomo was granted study leave to pursue a Master’s Degree in Forensic Genetics at the University of North Texas on the agreement that he would return and work in Belize. Perdomo, however, could not be located, or so the motion said. In a prior interview, Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber says that details of the write-offs were not shared with Cabinet prior to the write-off . Faber described the situation as unfortunate and said that it should return to Cabinet for discussion to “see what can be done.” Soon after those comments, reports surfaced that P.M. Barrow scolded Faber for speaking out against the Cabinet’s collective decision. Faber would later offer an explanation on collective responsibility. News Five asked Minister Edmond Castro if the matter returned to cabinet. Castro was cagey in his responses.

Sir has Cabinet discussed the Joshua Perdomo write-off, was it brought up again?

Edmond Castro, U.D.P. Minister

Edmond Castro

“Sir how will you dare, how dare you to ask me what we discussed in Cabinet? I am not at liberty to discuss any Cabinet decision. That one is off the table, off the menu.”

“But then whatever was discussed and what was voted on at the house committee, that one is not off the table because it was not a Cabinet meeting and you voted in favor of the write-off.”

Edmond Castro

“But you know what some of those write off even representative Musa said that some of those write-offs are from his dad’s time. I said but your dad could have written these things long time. So I don’t know why…”

Hipolito Novelo

“When you voted in favor of the write off, did you know that it was for the Cabinet Secretary’s son?”

Edmond Castro

“Listen to me, better we stop discuss this because you are going too far.”
