NEMO Keeping an Eye on Forming Storms

As the Bahamas recovers from the devastation of Hurricane Dorian, a brewing storm system is posing a new threat to the northern islands of the Bahamas. Meteorologists say it could likely become a tropical storm over the weekend. In Belize, the National Emergency Management Organization, NEMO is keeping a close eye on all forming storms. NEMO Minister Edmond Castro says that government agencies are monitoring the region as a measure of preparation in the event of an approaching hurricane.

“This is the time now that every organization, country and everyone in this region must reassess the situation and see where need to go to so we can best take care of our population. It doesn’t take long for only the hurricanes leaving the West coast of Africa to jump to a category one, two, three, four and five and obviously with climate change it seems that there will be actually going off the chart hurricanes that we have never experience or have record of. So it is very crucial for us to look at our neighboring brother and sister nations that have experience such category five and to see how we can best improve and prepare for when that time comes because we are in the hurricane belt.”
