Chester Williams

A well-coordinated and strategic anti-drug operation led to a police shootout and the confiscation of one thousand two hundred and ten parcels of cocaine packed in forty-one bails on board a King Air twelve engine aircraft. The parcels had the marking “Oro” and “Cat” on it. Six persons, four from Honduras, one from Ecuador and a Mexican national, are in police detention. The clandestine landing happened on a well lit illegal airstrip off the Coastal Road in the wee hours of this morning. Authorities here in Belize received prior information during the day that the drug plane had taken off from Venezuela and had plans to land in Belize. Officers were deployed to several of the illegal and legal aerodromes. The plane was allowed to land and officers waited for other key players to appear. Then, they pounced on the unsuspecting drug traffickers. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams today gave a detailed account of the operation.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Yesterday during the day we received intelligence of a tracked leaving Venezuela. As we would normally do, we mobilized members of the security forces and deployed as different aerodrome, both legal and illegal with the hope that the plane would land. Our officers remained in place and around twelve-eighteen last night the plane was spotted making a landing on an illegal aerodrome off the Coastal Road. The security forces who were in the area remained in place and allowed the plane to land properly before making a move. When the plane landed properly and the pilot had turned off the engine. Two vehicles approached the plane with men on board. These men we believe were the ones who were tasked to unload the cargo from the plane While they were unloading the cargo, the security forces made a move towards them.”
