Pachakan Bust – “Eight Pound Ah Weed Eena Van Back”

Two men are in police custody pending charges of drug trafficking after being nabbed with ten pounds of compressed marijuana in the vicinity of Pachakan Village in the Corozal District. The bust happened on Wednesday night when officers in the area reportedly observed suspicious activity. The vehicle was pulled over and subsequently taken to the Corozal Police Station where a thorough search yielded ten parcels of marijuana weighing roughly eight pounds.  Both men are from San Ignacio and were far away from home when they were arrested.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Last night, shortly after seven p.m., police on patrol in the Pachakan area observed a green Chrysler van in the area bearing San Ignacio license plate.  As a result, those persons were approached by police who were the occupants of the vehicle where they were informed that the police will conduct a search on the vehicle.  As a result, the vehicle was then escorted to the Corozal Police Station compound where a thorough search was conducted which resulted in the discovery of ten parcels of suspected cannabis wrapped in clear plastic which, when weighed, amounted to three thousand, six hundred and eighty-two grams.  Those two persons who are detained pending this investigation are from San Ignacio and are expected to be charged later today.”

“The disparity in locations… where were they headed, [that] kind of thing.”

“I do not believe so, obviously the police were in that area prior to them deciding to conduct a search on the vehicle based on suspicious activities that they were seeing.”

“So they were just transporting this illegal substance?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well they were just about to leave the area when they were approached by the police.”
