Brian Orellano is Remanded for San Martin Ruckus

Brian Orellano has brought the Belize Coast Guard into disrepute by allegedly discharging a firearm in public during an altercation with Christina Teul in which she was also reportedly assaulted with the weapon. Tonight, he is on remand at the Belize Central Prison and his future with the coast guard hangs in the balance. Orellano was arraigned on four counts stemming from that incident on Monday morning in the San Martin area of Belmopan. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett, a firearm has been recovered and a series of tests will determine if it is the same handgun fired during the heated argument.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, NCIB

“In reference to an incident I had reported on Monday concerning where Cristina Teul had made a report, police have since arrested and charged Brian Orellano, a twenty-three-year-old coastguard officer of a San Martin address for two counts of aggravated assault, one count of wounding and one count of discharging a firearm in public.”

“Has he been remanded, sir?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Yes, he was.  I do not have an adjournment date, but yes he was.”

Reporter

“And there is absolutely no counter-accusation that’s been made, that’s the end of that situation?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“As far as I know, he too may have given the police a report which was being dealt with as well.”

Reporter

“But in that regard, no one charged?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“No one has been charged as yet.”

Reporter

“Are police looking to charge anyone?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well, we will see where the investigation goes.”

Reporter

“Can you say if the gun had been found sir that was reportedly used by Mr. Orellano?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“The police did recover a twenty-two pistol, I believe it was, which tests will have to be done on and certain procedures will have to be followed as it is that that weapon was not necessarily recovered from him at the time of the crime.”
