Mercury Levels in Macal River fish goes down

The Ministry of Health has received the results of the last set of tests taken on levels of mercury in fish in the Macal River in the west. Principal Public Health Inspector at the Ministry, John Bodden says that they will be releasing the results by press release soon but shared that the results look good.

“What I can tell you from the preliminary assessment is that the results are relatively good because of the eighteen different fish species that we sampled, only two of them are at elevated stage.”

“We have the Bay Snook. That is mandatory by the court and we have about five other different species that we are monitoring but of the other five one, I think it’s the Baca , not the Chulin, I think it’s the Chulin is another fish that has elevated levels but pretty much most of the others have gone down tremendously.”

The last test was conducted in May. The tests are conducted once a year.
