GOB Pledges US$100,000 to The Bahamas for Hurricane Relief

Belize has joined other nations and international organization in providing relief to The Bahamas post Hurricane Dorian which caused extensive destruction on the island on September first as a Category Five storm. Cabinet agreed to make a contribution of one hundred thousand US dollars to The Bahamas to assist in the recovery efforts. Belize Electricity Limited also stands ready to make available personnel to assist with the restoration of electricity. The Belize Defence Force is also prepared to send a contingent to help with security. Prime Minister Dean Barrow also wrote to Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis stating that “ever-increasing occurrence of powerful hurricanes in our region is a clear and present reminder that our efforts to become a climate resilient region are prudent; and rightfully ought to be accorded our highest priority.” Late this evening, the Prime Minister Minnis updated the nation.
