Morgue at Southern Regional Hospital Fully Functional

Dr. George Gough

The morgue at the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga is finally up and running after weeks of being non-operational. Earlier in August, residents in Dangriga and the surrounding communities were told that the morgue was out of commission, again. On Friday, the Southern Workers Union staged a protest in front of the hospital highlighting the state of affairs at the hospital. Well, the Ministry of Health today says that it has purchased the necessary parts which finally arrived in the country. Workers installed the parts on Sunday and now the morgue is back to being functional. C.E.O. in the Ministry of Health Doctor George Gough says two new units were secured at the cost of ninety-five thousand dollars.

Dr. George Gough, C.E.O., M.O.H.

“Now the morgue is fully functioned and is ready to receive up to for patients. But at the same times, we are still trying to recuperate the other morgue because the unit is in good condition. So we are trying to salvage so that the capacity can be eight. Dangriga and the entire region has grown in population. The other thing that we are going to do with the unit is that the unit needs to be taken care and housed. So we decided on a time to change the air condition unit for the building and we are making sure that all the water supply and plumbing become completely functioned because it does functions but at the same time there are areas that needed maintenance. So I would want to think the total investment by the time we are done in the next week or two with the total retrofitting of the building would run us close to quarter-million dollars. But I think it is not about money. It is more about the service that we provide. The doctor was telling me that there is high demand.”
