Group Charged for Home Invasion at Sarkis Abou-Nehra Walk Free

A home invasion at the property of a well-known businessman fell apart this morning in court.   As many as nineteen persons were charged initially for the home invasion at the house of Sarkis Abou-Nehra in Burrell Boom after a group of men from the city stormed into his premises, stole a number of items including his surveillance cameras and as many as three firearms.  The group allegedly tied up his watchman, held him and his wife at gunpoint and during the ordeal, the woman was raped in the presence of her husband and children.  Today, the last three men standing to face a charge of aggravated burglary walked free. They are brothers, John and Sheldon Grinage, along with Brandon Baptist, who walked from the murder of Mariano Castillo.  Inside the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer, the prosecutor, Inspector Egbert Castillo, informed the court that the matter had already been set for final trial, but the virtual complainant was out of the country. The Chief Magistrate then dismissed the charge of aggravated burglary against the trio and they were free to go.   While Baptist was able to leave the courtroom, the Grinage brothers who remain on a charge of murder in the stabbing death of Stann Creek resident, Robert Mariano, were remanded to the Belize Central Prison. Their murder trial is now set for the October session of the Supreme Court. Others also charged were Lane Grinage, Tyrone Meighan, Paul Jex Junior and three women. Charges of rape, aggravated burglary and handling stolen goods had been slapped upon the group and tonight only Jex Junior is yet to face trial.  He is presently on bail for the rape charge. .He was committed to stand trial after DNA testing linked him to the victim.
