Truck Driver is Issued Notice of Intended Prosecution

Joseph Myvett

The family told News Five that the injuries they saw on Jordy Bainton’s body suggest that he had been dragged by the truck before it came to a stop on the roundabout.  While his name has not been disclosed, the driver of the Mack Truck was initially detained, but later released. He has also been served with a notice of intended prosecution.  Earlier today, at the police press brief, Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett shared official details on the accident.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Police were called to Chetumal Boulevard where they observed a blue Mack Truck which was northbound on the boulevard and just in front of the truck; they observed the motionless body of a male person later identified as Jordy Bainton. Nearby they found a black bicycle that was extensively damaged. What we were able to ascertain is that Mister Bainton seemingly was riding on the left had side of the divider northbound and he attempted to cross the divider just about where the pedestrian ramp is and in so doing, he was not seen by the driver who had recently stopped and had just taken off. The driver was taken into custody where samples was taken from him and he was served with a notice of intended prosecution and later released pending further investigation into this matter.”
