P.U.P. Demands Answers on a Grant of $1.6 Million from N.H.I. Funds

The matter of N.H.I. funds for the construction of a one point six million-dollar Central Medical Stores Building in Belmopan is still in the news tonight. Last Friday, different explanations were provided by the Financial Secretary and the C.E.O. of the Social Security Board which manages the N.H.I. funds about the grant for purposes not contemplated under the Act.  Well, today the People’s United Party is seeking more answers and clarity. In a release, the P.U.P. calls on the Minister of Health Pablo Marin and C.E.O. George Goff to come clean as to how and why they planned to raid N.H.I. reserves without authority. The P.U.P. makes the connection to Goff, who it notes, before moving to the Ministry of Health was the man in charge of those N.H.I. reserves. Both the S.S.B. C.E.O., Doctor Colin Young and the PM have said they did not know of the grant, so the P.U.P. questions who really was in the know.  The P.U.P. makes the point that were it not for the leaked memo authorizing the contract to a company owned by Rolando Montero, brother of U.D.P. Minister Rene Montero, the use of the funds would have been a done deal.  The P.U.P. calls on the Prime Minister to act decisively in clearing up this matter and letting the cards fall where they may since for too long, the people’s money has been used as the U.D.P.’s piggy bank.
