Speeding on the Highway; Residents Ask for Monitoring and Enforcement

There have been many reports made to the Ministry of Transport about speeding on the highways and the need for monitoring and enforcement. Just last Sunday, four Belize City men perished in a fatal accident on the Philip Goldson Highway between miles six and seven; police said that speeding was a factor. Earlier today, Lorena Vasquez told News Five that on that stretch of the highway, villagers are often concerned about the speed at which passenger buses are travelling and would like for the appropriate authorities to intervene.

Voice of: Lorena Vasquez, Resident, Rhaburn Ridge Village

“This is every evening, sometimes we are here scared. We see the buses especially around five, you see the buses overtaking on the curve and it is crazy. Sometimes you might think what are they thinking of.  I got scared because my child was out here. Like two three minutes I brought them in with me and they were waiting here on the stone for me. And then as I sat down the bag and they stayed behind when I heard the bang.”
