An Update on Anisha Young

Anisha Young

In May, the family of Anisha Young received more devastating news when they were informed that DNA test results conducted in Jamaica were inconclusive. The twenty-three-year-old young woman went missing on December ninth, and up to date, her body has yet to be found leaving the family with more questions than answers and without closure. She went missing after a night out with her boyfriend in Belize City at a local nightclub on Newtown Barracks.  Family and friends searched endlessly for her and later found what they believe were her remains.  Samples of the remains were later sent overseas for examination, but according to the family’s spokesperson, Jose Espat, the medical institute used by the Police Department is not accredited by the World Health Organization.

“The police stated to me and the family in a meeting that they are using a lab in Miami. They are using a lab by the name of Carigen out of Jamaica which is not accredited by the World Health Organization. That means that the testing and results and the facilities don’t meet the required protocol to be accredited by the World Health Organization. This does not mean that they cannot operate as a lab, it simply mean that the results will not be admissible in any court of law. So by not having this, the control is now her in Belize in the hands of the Commissioner of Police and the hands of office Director of Forensic Services. It would be good enough for us to speak with the Commissioner of Police and have him do a four way call for him to be informed and everything is aligned so we can start eh process of taken on that chain of custody This will now ensure that the state will be the one to send that representative to take that DNA nevertheless myself and Miss Sheree will still accompany that person and sure that the sample is not tampered with.”
