The Rash Family Overturns Outside of Dangriga

Members of a family of five from southern Belize were injured during a accident this morning. It happened just outside Dangriga when the Rash family from the village of San Isidro was travelling in a SUV. Pablo Rash apparently spotted a police check point and applied brakes. It caused his vehicle to overturn and crash into a guard rail. The parents as well as the three children were injured and had to be hospitalized.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

A father and his two children are receiving medical treatment at the K.H.M.H. after being airlifted from the Southern Regional Hospital this morning.  Thirty-five-year-old Pablo Rash, an electrician of San Isidro Village, was traveling with his family en route to Dangriga when he came upon a vehicular checkpoint near the outskirts of town.  Rash reportedly applied the brakes but the black Mitsubishi Montero swerved violently and he lost control of the vehicle.  The SUV collided into a nearby guard rail, before overturning on the other side of the road.  Inside the vehicle along with him was his wife, thirty-five-year-old Dolores Rash and their three children.  Twelve-year-old Tyrki and Cailyn Rash, along with their brother four-year-old brother Harrison, received varying degrees of head and body injuries.  They were tossed from the vehicle during the accident. As seen in this amateur video, first responders quickly came to the aid of the family.  Pablo and Jyrki were flown to Belize City, while Cailyn was transported via ambulance shortly thereafter.  Police are investigating.
