Belizean art show opens in Havana

Story Picture
In the world of international politics the nation of Belize learned long ago the necessity of maintaining an active profile within the global community. And it seems that attitude is gaining strength in the once laid back world of Belizean art. An exhibition called “Zero: new Belizean art”, which first appeared in Merida in March 2001, opened last Friday in Havana, Cuba. The show, organised by the Image Factory, features selected works by Gilvano Swasey, Alfonso Galvez, Michael Gordon, Yasser Musa, Damian Perdomo and Santiago Cal. On hand for the official opening was Deputy Prime Minister Johnny Briceno and President of the Cuban Parliament, Ricardo Alarcon. The exhibition will remain open at Galeria Latino Americana through August. Over the next two years it is scheduled to visit Guatemala, Costa Rica, Jamaica, The Dominican Republic and Spain.
