B.T.B. Hosts Annual Digital Summit

The Belize Tourism Board held its annual digital summit today, a forum which allows stakeholders to learn how to market their companies, products, as well as the country, on the online and social media platforms.  Separated into two simultaneous workshops, participants were given the choice of streamlining the information that they wanted to gather on either of two mediums.  According to Digital Marketing Manager Perry Bodden Junior, the summit also catered to non-tourism stakeholders.

Perry Bodden Jr., Digital Marketing Manager, B.T.B.

“The main focus for a digital marketing summit is to build the capacity in the tourism industry and then to build the overall digital footprint for Belize, you know.  More people talking about Belize, more people marketing Belize gives us an easier job at the B.T.B. to market Belize digitally.  For participants, we have mainly our hoteliers and tour operators and of course anyone can learn from this and we have the private sector as well.  For example, we have Pink Boutique here today.  So once you are a digital marketer you can be sure to take back some information, some valuable information.”

“I notice that you guys have sort of bifurcated the activities that are taking place here today, on one end you have digital marketing and on the other you have social media.  Talk to us about the difference between the two and what does each have to offer.”

“Well this year we are going with a different format.  This morning we had the usual presentation-style panel discussions and this afternoon we are actually having a more hands-on approach, a workshop approach where our attendees get to actually get their hands dirty and practice with different tools to make their lives easier as digital marketers.  And we are having presentations running simultaneously just so that our attendees can actually pick and choose what they want to learn about.”
