A Peaceful Demonstration for Murder Victim, Yanira Novelo

Murder victim, Yanira Novelo, was laid to rest today in her home village of San Jose in Orange Walk. Over one hundred and fifty residents from San Jose and San Pablo villages held a peaceful demonstration to show support and demand justice for the young mother who was brutally killed on Monday and her body found on Tuesday.  The event, dubbed a “peaceful movement for Yanira Novelo,” kicked off with a short programme and then moved on to the cemetery in San Jose Village during the funeral. The Chairman of San Pablo and the P.U.P. Orange Walk North Standard Bearer were in attendance and shared a couple words.

“This recent murder really impacted us a community here in San Jose – San Pablo. We are very shocked – it has touched our community. We have been seeing it occurring through-out the country but we never thought it would come here in our community. So, as a leader for San Pablo Community I am very worried and concerned. So, I am here today to render support and to promote peace and demand justice.”

“I know the young lady who was killed. I know her parents, her grandparents. I know her whole family. They are peaceful people. Good people. They are just good upright citizens. It is totally unfair, unjust, cruel, and inhumane for someone to hurt a family in that way. I say it is incomprehensible and we have to ask ourselves how far down the pit have we come as a society, as a community. It is hard to understand.”
