Forty-six-year-old American tourist Jemma Paybarrah died while out on tour in southern Belize.  Police say the tourist was at sea when she drowned. On Friday afternoon around three o’clock, a tour guide reported to police that he had a group of tourist out at sea when they realized Paybarrah was missing.  A boater found her body the following day and an autopsy confirmed that she had drowned. “A boat captain visited Placencia police where he reported that earlier in the day he took out a group of eight tourists to do snorkeling near Carrie Bow Caye. When they were ready to leave, he discovered that a female tourist Jemma Paybarrah was missing from the group. When they commenced the tour at the time she was accompanied by her husband and six other persons. Sometime Saturday morning shortly after seven-forty-five a boat captain in the area, just south west of Wee-Wee Caye discovered the body floating. He took the body on board his vessel where he headed to Placencia. A post mortem has since been conducted on the body where she died from asphyxia inhalation of fluid which is consistent with drowning.”

According to the B.T.B., guides operating on water are required to have eight guests per one guide. Police say that they are still investigating this incident and are yet to determine if the guide and vessel were licensed. On June twenty-eighth, British national Phillip Crabtree drowned and his body was retrieved from the sea in Placencia.

having just left there from vacation I will state clearly: I WILL NEVER GO BACK.
Belize has been caught up in recent corruption centered around the down turn in the economy. What makes it dangerous for Americans going there is narrative that Americans live lavish life styles, have amassed the world’s wealth and are to blame for the poverty in Belize and central America.
Police and Government officials are unconcerned with what they perceive as “deserved deaths” of Americans.
