Investigation Continues into Shooting in Hattieville

Police are still gathering information in the near fatal shooting of Ozen Rhaburn of Hattieville. An attempt was made on the life of Rhaburn on Thursday morning, but fortunately, he survived the shooting and is in a stable condition. The twenty-three-year-old was shot at his house reportedly by someone he knew. A motive has not been ascertained, but there are reports in the village that it may be linked to the previous murder of Carlton Wade, the businessman who was gunned down at his store in the village a week ago. This, however, remains under investigation. News Five’s Duane Moody went back to the village today looking for answers.

There have been two shootings in exactly one week in Hattieville Village, Belize District; one of which claimed the life of well-known businessman Carlton Wade.   In the latter of the two shootings, twenty-three-year-old Ozen Rhaburn was hit multiple times to the body, but lived to tell the story. In fact, he remains at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a stable condition, having undergone emergency surgery on Thursday.

“At about nine a.m., police visited an area located in the Hattieville Village known as Farmer’s Site where they observed a male person by the name of Ozen Rhaburn with gunshot injuries to his body. Police were able to transport him to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is presently undergoing surgery and is in a critical, but stable condition.”

There is mounting speculation that the two cases of gun violence may be related.  Last Thursday, in an interview with this station, Louise Bailey, who is the common-law wife of Wade, appealed to her husband’s friends not to take revenge for his murder. While police have yet to determine a motive for the most recent shooting, could it be that Bailey’s words have fallen on deaf ears?

“I am appealing to Conch Shell Bay, I am appealing to George Street, I am appealing to everywhere, I am appealing to Hattieville and I am appealing to everybody not to take revenge, leave it to God.  God will take revenge, because Mr. Carlton has a lot of friends.  He is friends with the Crips, with the Bloods, with everybody.  He noh have no enemy and I know that people wahn feel for ahn so I am appealing, let go and just allow God to take control.”

In both cases, a police have taken one person into custody, but no one has been charged for the murder or the attempted murder in Hattieville. Duane Moody for News Five.
