Securing Funding to Attend CARIFESTA 2019

Greg Vernon

According to Greg Vernon, with support from the National Institute of Culture and History, they are now trying to source funding for airfares and lodging for the contingent that will represent Belize at CARIFESTA.

“It will be the government of Belize; we are also looking at the airlines, the private sector in giving some funding. The private sector has always come through for CARIFESTA so definitely it will be a fifty-fifty or a seventy-thirty. We don’t know how it will go at this time, but wi gwen.”

Duane Moody

“Sir do you believe that compared to previous years, there is a delay; that we are behind in schedule?”

Greg Vernon

“I don’t feel bad about Belize because when you look across the Caribbean, each country is at the same point that we are in. And so I can smile and say when you talk to the rest of our brothers and sisters within the Caribbean—especially when you speak to the organizers in Trinidad—they are saying guess what, Belize don’t worry about it. You guys are well registering on time, but we have not been hearing from the other countries. This is CARIFESTA; this is the Caribbean Festival of Arts and we are always kinda slow in getting our funding from across the Caribbean, but we always make it happen. And we will make it happen the same way we made it happen in Barbados.”
