PUP Leader Writes Prime Minister for Full Disclosure of Audit Report

P.U.P. Leader John Briceño has written to Prime Minister Dean Barrow with regards to B.T.L.’s reported G.S.T. debt. In the letter, Briceño tells P.M. Barrow that since B.T.L. is majority owned by the people, the public is entitled to a full and frank disclosure. Briceño asks Barrow, who is also the Minister of Finance, for a copy of the result of the G.S.T. investigation and the letter written to the Financial Secretary.

“I am happy to report that the Party Leader has written a letter to the man behind it all, the man that has been hiding behind the curtain, the Wizard of Oz, the Prime Minister himself to demand full disclosure of the financial affairs of the people’s company, BTL. He can no longer hide behind the curtain and say that BTL is a private company the way he did in the House of Representative when we asked him to disclose how much he was paying his son, Anwar Barrow. We the Belizean people have close to seven hundred million dollars invested and tied up in BTL and we are demanding answers. Tell us Mr. Prime Minister, why has BTL not been paying its taxes? Tell us Mr. Prime Minister, did the Chairman of BTL write to the government requesting a waiver or a write off of these taxes? We demand answers and we deserve answers.”

“We are calling for an independent audit complete forensic audit into the affairs of BTL. If the government does not do it then when we get into government, the PUP government will have a foreign investigator, audit being done in BTL so that everybody can know what exactly happened under the tenure of the Prime Minister and his son Anwar Barrow whilst they were on the helm of BTL.”
