Football Under-21 goes to C.A. Games

Despite recent problems within the B.N.F.A., football officials say things have been progressing smoothly in its goal to develop the sport in Belize. Following the dissolution of the B.N.F.A. Executive on June thirtieth, Bertie Chimilio was re-elected as president until elections are held in two months. This morning the association hosted a press conference to introduce members of the Under-21 selection committee and update the media on the latest developments.

“Everything has been running smoothly. The administration continues to work. We are soon to receive a statute so we can circulate it for everyone to give their comments, argue over it and decide what we are going to do and move on to from there for elections in the next sixty days.”

Daniel Fabro, Chairman, U-21 Selection

“The work must continue and that is why I decided to take up this post. There is a lot of infighting in football right now, but the truth is while the adults are fighting it’s only the youths who suffer and regardless of the situation we have to represent Belize [at the Central American Games] in November. We are already delayed I think about three to four weeks from when the actual work was suppose to start, so we have a lot of catching up to do and that is why we began to immediately do some work. Things are still not as organised or situations are not in place where we want to have it, but little by little we are working out the kinks.”

In November the team participates in the Central American Games scheduled to take place in Guatemala City. Next week Wednesday ground breaking ceremonies will take place on a fifteen-acre plot of land in Belmopan for the construction of a new headquarters for football. The contract was awarded to Fabro Industries by FIFA. The local company will construct three buildings and two football fields.
