Caribbean Shores Area Rep., Kareem Musa, Confident of Next Victory at the Polls

Kareem Musa

On Sunday the United Democratic Party held its convention in the Caribbean Shores constituency. Former Senate President Lee Mark Chang bested opponent, Leila Peyrefitte by three hundred votes. Before the convention, it was expected that Peyrefitte would have been favoured given her presence in the constituency during the I.C.J. referendum campaign. As you know, the U.D.P. was campaigning for a ‘yes’ vote while the P.U.P. was on the side of a ‘no’ vote. In Caribbean Shores, the Yes vote prevailed. Standard Bearer Kareem Musa was today asked if this is an indication that Caribbean Shores will go red next year for the general elections.

“I had not asked a single voter to vote yes or no in the referendum. Caribbean Shores is made up of very educated voters who have a mind of their own and who can decide on their own. I can tell you leading up to referendum day, the Caribbean Shores voters would vote yes. I knew that before the day. So there was no way that I would go out and tell people to vote no when they had digested all the fact s and they feel comfortable with their vote of voting yes. Miss Peyrefitte didn’t have much ground in Caribbean Shores as Sunday revealed to you. So on referendum day seventy one percent I believe came out and they expressed themselves what they wanted for the ICJ. So I had to respect that.”
