Couple Acquitted of Wounding their 6-Year-Old Child
A police officer and his common-law-wife are free tonight after they were acquitted of three counts of wounding upon their six-year-old child, who they were accused of beating. Police claimed that the child was injured in October, November and December 2017, when she was hit by her parents with a broom, a spoon and a stick. The young girl was examined and the doctor classified her injuries as wounding. In court, Doctor Cecilio Eck testified that when he examined the child, most of the injuries were in the healing process and he could not give a precise decision on the specific causes of the injuries. According to Doctor Eck, his examination conducted on December seventeenth, 2017 concluded that there were many bruises and lesions in multiple stages of healing all over the child’s body.
He also diagnosed the child as being physically assaulted due to evidence of recent blood trauma. But in cross examination attorney Oscar Selgado submitted that the injuries could have arisen from a condition known as skin picking and the doctor said it was possible. Both parents denied ever hitting the child, who was suffering from skin picking. On acquitting police corporal Tony Gamboa and Aricia Gentle, the magistrate issued a stern warning telling them to pay close attention to their child because any prudent parent would have observed the lesions on the child and would have sought attention immediately.
