Copper Thief Appears before the Court

Gilbert Craig

A man who authorities thought was a worker with B.T.L. turned out to be copper thief. Gilbert Craig of Faber’s Road Extension was arraigned before Magistrate Emmerson Banner on Monday for theft.  Allegations are that on June twenty-seventh, 2019, between miles thirteen and fifteen on the George Price Highway, Craig was caught stealing one hundred and fifty-five feet of copper wire valued at over eight hundred dollar.  According to B.T.L.’s Field Maintenance Technician, Jason Gideon, the company had been experiencing various cases of copper theft.   On Thursday, a team of officers dispatched to the area, detected an individual wearing an orange vest climbing a ladder with wires in his hand and a cutter, hog saw and some strips of copper wires beside him.   When police questioned him, he appeared suspicious and a check was made at B.T.L. where it was confirmed that none of its employees were working in the area. Craig was arrested and in court pleaded not guilty to theft. He received bail of one thousand five hundred dollars.
