A Bar Fight in Griga Leaves Two Persons with Gunshot Wounds

Joseph Myvett

Turning to the crime blotter…a brawl outside of a nightclub in Dangriga has left two persons injured with gunshot wounds after a police officer discharged his service issued weapon in an attempt to diffuse the melee.  Edmond Cayetano and Raquel McKenzie were both struck by a single round fired by the responding officer who is presently under investigation by the Professional Standards Branch following the incident.  According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett says Cayetano was shot in the right lower leg.

“On Saturday, sometime around 2:30 a.m., police responded to an information of a fight at a dance establishment that was ongoing where during the police’s arrival to assist other police officers who were working there and met the fight in progress, one of those officers approached one of the persons known as Edmond Cayetano.  In an attempt to separate the fight, the officer got into an altercation with this person where he pulled out his service issued nine millimetre firearm and fired one shot which caught Mr. Cayetano to the right lower leg and we believe also catching Ms. Raquel McKenzie to the left lower leg.  One other police officer who was present was also injured but we are still trying to determine whether or not that was as a result of the same incident.”
