Evan Gillett is Arraigned for Charges Related to the Death of His Cousin

Evan Gillett

In the Magistrate Court this morning, tourism attendant Evan Gillett was arraigned for causing the death of his cousin in a traffic accident after colliding into a metal lamppost situated in the median of the Phillip Goldson Highway last month.  Gillett was released after posting bail of ten thousand dollars following his arraignment for manslaughter by negligence, driving motor vehicle without due care and attention and causing death by careless conduct.  Initially, the court prosecutor had concerns as to whether Gillett would show up since the charges had been lodged a week ago and Gillett could not be located.  His attorney Dickie Bradley told the court that Gillett went twice to the Belama Police Station, but was told the officer was not available.  Gillett’s next court date is set for September fifth, 2019.  Police say that on June seventh, 2019, Gillett collided into a lamppost causing the death of Michael Young, who sustained massive head and body injuries and later succumbed. Gillett, who was also injured, was transported to the K.H.M.H. for treatment, while Young was pronounced him dead on arrival.  A post-mortem conducted on the body of Michael Andrew Young revealed that he died from brain hemorrhage, dislocation and head injuries.
