The Importance of Climate Change Adaptability
Director of Extension at the Ministry of Agriculture Belarmino Esquivel says that institutional strengthening and improved technical capacities in the agricultural sector of Belize can improve the country’s ability to respond to climate risks and take advantage of opportunities that could emerge in the long-run.

“So what we want to do is be able to demonstrate to farmers that there are technologies that they can apply, can adapt to mitigate so that their adaptive capacity s strengthen and be more resilience to the effects of climate change. It is geared for crops so topics like water management, soil fertility, integrated best management. This is one of the many modules of the twelve modules at the Ministry. It is the first time that we have institutionalized a training structure to certify our officers so they are more effective in delivery support to the farming community.”
