A Special Constable is Kidnapped and Carjacked

An employee of the Belize City Council was abducted at gunpoint on Saturday morning by a pair of thieves dressed in camouflage and later released in an area along the Hummingbird Highway, but not before being robbed of a rented vehicle.  Despite a subsequent report of being taken against his will by armed bandits on Princess Margaret Drive, police requested that Jacinto Luna, himself a special constable, return to the precinct where he was once again questioned about the alleged incident.  A.S.P. Alejandro Cowo shared details of what reportedly transpired.

A.S.P. Alejandro Cowo, Acting Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“On Saturday, June 15th, 2019, sometime after midday, Mr. Jacinto Luna, thirty-one-year-old special constable for the city council, visited the Precinct Three Police Station and reported that on that same date at about three in the morning in the morning, he was driving a rented vehicle along the Princess Margaret Drive when he was stopped by a vehicle and two male persons alighted the vehicle.  These two persons were dressed in camouflage clothing and as a result both of them pointed a firearm at him and they demanded to conduct a search of the vehicle.  He mentioned that he thought it was police so he obeyed and after they conducted a search of the vehicle they asked him to get inside of the vehicle and thereafter the two male persons jumped in the vehicle and drove away with the vehicle.  He further mentioned that he was tied up and did not see where the person drove off to.  They drove for a long time and when he realized the vehicle came to a stop and he was put out of the vehicle.  Thereafter he managed to untie himself and walked to the highway when he observed that he was on the Hummingbird Highway and thereafter he hitchhiked and made a stop at the Belmopan Police Station and made a report.”

“It is something that we are following.  We have spoken to Belmopan police and indeed they mentioned that he was there making a report on Saturday morning.  So that is something that we have confirmed with them.  We also know that he had rented a vehicle on Wednesday of last week.  So that is another part that we had confirmed about that vehicle.”

Reporter

“When was he supposed to return the rental and what type of vehicle was it?”

Alejandro Cowo

“I believe that he rented the vehicle for three days and it is a Toyota Forerunner.”
