Kareem Clarke’s Accused Murderer Has His Day in Court

Mark Waight

Twenty-one-year-old Mark Waight is accused of murder in the shooting death of Amandala reporter Kareem Clarke back in July 2015.  Today, he also appeared before Justice Collin Williams where his trial resumed.  Last week when the matter commenced, the Crown’s main witness Orlett Bevans failed to show up in court.  A bench warrant was subsequently issued for her arrest and the trial was adjourned to today.  In court today, when Bevans was asked to recount the events of that fateful morning which resulted in the death of Clarke, she responded at around one a.m. that day she was with a group of persons smoking crack.  On July sixth, 2015, Clarke was riding a bicycle on Vernon Street when he was accosted by a lone gunman who shot him multiple times to the body.  The alleged gunman was later identified as Mark Waight who was just seventeen-years-old at the time.  The matter resumed in the Supreme Court on Thursday.
