Belize and Guatemala’s Trade Ministers Meet to Discuss Trade Relationship

In other news involving Belize and Guatemala, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Commercial Cooperation, Jairo Estrada, called on Minister of Trade and Investment Tracy Taegar-Panton on Thursday in Belmopan.  Joined by Deputy Chief of Mission for Belize and Guatemala, David Vargas, both ministers discussed improving the trade relationship between the neighboring countries by taking advantage of the Administrative Commission in Guatemala.  The commission was established by Belize and Guatemala in an effort to resume discussions on the Partial Scope Agreement, as well as possible linkages between the Secretary of Economic Integration of Central America and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.  During their meeting, Vice Minister Estrada also congratulated Belize on its decision to proceed to the I.C.J.   He reiterated that this indicates, “A clearer vision on the timeline and work that needs to be done between the two countries.” For her part, Minister Panton equally commended Estrada on his effort to strengthen the relationship with Guatemala as move towards an expanded cooperation that will create a better quality of life for all citizens.
