2 Women and a Naturalized Belizean are Victims of Shocking Triple Murder

Alarice Andrewin & Vidal Yuman

The story of a horrid triple murder at a home on the George Price Highway continues to unfold, as new details emerge on what took place at mile ten on Tuesday.  News Five understands that the family home of forty-four-year-old Alarice Andrewin was also being occupied by a tenant whose girlfriend, a Guatemalan national who entered into Belize on Sunday, was reportedly visiting at the time of the deadly shooting.  It is revealed that all three victims were bound with a length of electrical cord and were shot to death.  We’ve also learned that police were able to recover four expended shells from the scene of the shooting.  The identities of the other two victims have also been revealed and this afternoon, the police department held a press brief to apprise the media of their investigation so far.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano has that story.

It’s a somber morning on campus as students and teachers are reeling from the shocking news of the school administrator’s demise.  The acting principal of Excelsior High School, Alarice Andrewin, was shot and killed along with two others inside her family home on the George Price Highway on Tuesday.  Three bodies, including that of the forty-four-year-old educator, were discovered inside a bedroom.  A Guatemalan national, nineteen-year-old Maria Juarez, and thirty-nine-year-old Vidal Antonio Yuman, a naturalized Belizean, were also victims of the grisly triple homicide.

“Presently we have our investigators on the ground, they are following up on every lead.  They are conducting interviews, recording statements and at this time I would like to appeal to the general public if they have any information that can assist us in this investigation, you can call the 922 TIPS or you can call us and pass the information.  We are following every lead that we are getting and we have our investigators on the ground working on this case as we speak.”

According to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, a special team of investigators has been assigned to the case.  He shared its composition during a press brief in Belize City this afternoon.

“The investigation team comprises of elements from the Special Branch, the Anti-Gang Task Force and personnel from Mr. Vidal’s office as well as from the FIU.  So basically we have put together a task force and the task force will be tasked specifically to pursue this investigation.  They will be given no other task at this time until further notice.  We are determined to get to the bottom of this latest triple homicide.  It is something that really and truly causes the society to be uneasy.”

But why is the Financial Investigation Unit joining the Anti-Gang Task Force and the Special Branch in probing what appears to be a calculated and well-orchestrated crime?  Perhaps it’s because the police department is leaving no stone unturned, amid developments that have also been taking place at Excelsior High School.  Andrewin was reportedly a witness in a matter involving the misappropriation of funds from the institution.

“We are following up on that information that you just mentioned and certainly we will have our investigators follow up on those two incidents.  Again, we are working on determining a motive, a cause, but at this time we have not established a motive and we continue with the investigation.”

According to Javier Castellanos, chairman of the board of directors at Excelsior High School, that case was set for Thursday.

“I understand that that investigation, however, the matter was set to come up in the days ahead and then this incident?”

“The case is supposed to come up on Thursday and she was a part of the witnesses also, you know.”

Aside from recent occurrences involving Andrewin, including a break-in at her residence at mile ten on the George Price Highway in early May, very little is known about the trio of victims.  According to Superintendent Hilberto Romero, the slain nineteen-year-old Guatemalan national had only just entered the country over the weekend.

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“We have information that she arrived in Belize on Sunday.  The information we have is that she had a prior relationship with the deceased Vidal Yuman.  That is the information we have.”

Despite having made no arrests thus far, ComPol Williams is certain that the investigators assigned to the case will get to the bottom of what transpired at Andrewin’s home.

Chester Williams

“The team that we have selected to deal with this investigation are the best of the best and so I have every confidence that they are going to do their utmost best to ensure that we get to the bottom of this and we find those who are responsible and bring them to justice.”
