Stabbing Victim Clings to Life; Will the Mental Health Patient be Charged?

Augustina Elijio

Former deputy Director of Health Services Augustina Elijio remains in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, after she was stabbed multiple times by a mental health patient on Tuesday afternoon. The fifty-seven-year-old psychiatric nurse practitioner was at the Port Loyola Health Centre when a patient, who has since been identified as Collin Frances entered the facility demanding medication. In the process, Frances pulled out a knife from his pocket and inflicted multiple stab wounds to an unsuspecting Elijio. Today, Assistant Superintendent of Police Alejandro Cowo told the media that the case file will be forwarded to the D.P.P. for instructions on whether Frances will be charged for the crime.

“What police gathered so far is that Miss Elijio was at the health centre when a mental patient arrived and began demanding for medication. While she was sitting inside the health centre, dealing with other matters, the mental patient approached her, pulled out a knife from his pocket and inflicted the stab wounds at her. He was detained and Miss Elijio is in a critical condition at this moment.”

“Is there any protocol in place to search persons when they enter this place? We know that mentally ill persons can exhibit spontaneously violent behaviour.”

“I cannot be sure if there was a security guard working at the establishment. But if there was one, there is a possibility that that may be one of the protocols that they have to follow.”

“Will he be…you all are proceeding with criminal charges against him in view of his mental condition?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Well we are preparing a file. We will forward that file to the D.P.P. office for them to advise us on how to proceed.”

“Does he have a history of violent behaviour?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“I cannot tell you if he has any history on that, but we are getting his medical records to try and prove his condition at this moment.”
