Was Andre Vega Unjustly Enriched?

Estevan Perera

Then there is the political angle of it all. As we mentioned, Andre Vega is the son of former U.D.P. Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega who was the minister at the time of the land transaction. A release from the government in 2016 stated that Vega had breached the terms of an agreement after compensation. The government set out to recover the four hundred thousand dollars on the basis that Vega was unduly compensated and as such, unjustly enriched.

“Are you and your client cognizant however of the fact that he became the beneficiary of a compensation when the Minister at the time was his father and part of the decision making process landed on his desk?”

Estevan Perera, Attorney for Andre Vega

“I cannot speak of the decision making process and who had discussion with respect to the settlement of the agreement and the drafting of the agreement. That again  you would have to speak the government attorneys for that. We can only speak to the settlement agreement that brought us here.”

Reporter

“Can you speak to the issue of unjust enrichment that is being alleged against your client?”

Estevan Perera

“You would have to ask the claimants attorney because I still don’t see where that claim is founded.”

Reporter

“The public perception of this transaction within the Ministry of Natural Resources is that it was plane and outright hustling. How would you respond to that?”

Estevan Perera

“Again the claim here is not about hustling. There is no evidence about hustling being put forward. There is no situation presented in their claim speaking of any hustling, indicating any hustling or providing any evidence of any hustling. I made that clear if you noticed in the court. I asked the Commissioner of Lands directly whether or not there were any indications of any actions taken by the first defendant that would appear to be in the form of corruption. He indicated clearly, no.”

The matter returns to court on July nineteenth.
