9 Pest Control Operators Recognized

On Monday, the Pesticides Control Board recognized nine pest control operators for having successfully completed a training program. The two-day training focused on trade applicators involved in urban pest control. Participants were evaluated using three modules accompanied by a practical evaluation that taught them best practices and professional ethics. Registrar of Pesticides Miriam Ochaeta-Serrut says that food businesses in need of assistance in the management of pests are advised to seek professional service from duly certified pest control operators.

“Pest control operators enter people’s home, and food handling establishments and hotels to do pest management in an urban setting. So the training that they participated in ranges from identification f the pest, unique pest management strategies for the different kind of pests, situations. Basically, professional ethics that pest control operators need to be mindful of because their activity puts them directly in contact with people and the environment but most importantly with the people in these settings. So, pest management in urban settings is a very specialized industry that requires a lot of knowledge and professional ethics.”


According to Ochaeta-Serrut, the Pesticides Control Board is cognizant of the need to update legislation governing the industry in order to ensure that all persons carrying out urban pest control have attained the required level of certification training, adopted best practices and continuously demonstrate professional ethics.
