Health Officials Warn of Dengue during Rainy Season

Health officials are also cognizant of the fact that with the rains upon us, a stronger effort is needed to address what is expected to be an increase of mosquitoes. These little winged creatures have the ability to spread diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya. It is because of this that the Ministry of Health has begun its spray cycles but according to Dr. Marvin Manzenero, a community effort is needed.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“Dengue and any other successful story in terms of Zika and Chikungunya is a community effort. It is really isn’t the Ministry of Health. I know people have been calling and asking when we will start the spray cycles. We have spray cycles. We are doing that in Orange Walk and we are starting in down south now. But that’s not really the frontline situation if we are all careful in terms of cleaning up our space, neighborhoods and then we have less work to do. That remains the key element, key deterrent for dengue and any other outbreak in that regard would have to be a community collective effort in terms of ensuring our environment is clean.”
