Three men have been arrested in connection with a brazen armed robbery which police say they committed, with a fourth accomplice, in Dangriga Town. The robbers stormed into the establishment, held the employees at gunpoint before escaping with three thousand dollars in cash. The entire incident was captured on camera and the video footage is being used to assist police in their investigation. As mentioned, three persons have been arrested and police are seeking a fourth. News Five’s Hipolito Novelo reports.

At around eight-thirty-five on Saturday night, four men, one wielding a twelve gauge sawed-off shotgun and two others armed with handguns, barged into Family City Imports on George Price Drive in Dangriga Town. The thieves arrived on bicycles before storming into the store. Bystanders quickly dispersed from the scene. Inside the store, employees took cover the moment the armed robbers were seen entering. Three of the culprits secured the store while the fourth robber hopped over the counter for the money. The heist was executed in less than two minutes. From a third camera angle, the thieves are seen leaving the premises on foot. They escaped with three thousand dollars in cash, proceeds from the day’s lottery sales. Quick police work, however, led investigators to three of the suspects.

“There are several surveillance footages that the police has been looking at which resulted in the detention of three male persons. And I believe they will be charged sometime this evening. Police also recovered a shotgun and a pistol which we suspect was involved in this robbery.”

The suspects are ‘known persons’ in Dangriga. The cash was not recovered. With the increased number of robberies countrywide, authorities are advising businesses to be on high alert.

“What the ComPol mentioned or advise the business owners, we have seen an increased of robberies especially of these business establishments in the outskirts of the districts or the city. That is more difficult for police to have quicker access to these areas and I think this is the advantage that some of those people are taking to commit these robberies in these remote areas.”

No one was injured during the brazen armed robbery. Hipolito Novelo, News Five.
