Has Corozal Bay Voters Lost Confidence in Pablo Marin?

On May eighth, an overwhelming majority of Belizeans took the decision to take the Belize Guatemala dispute to the International Court of Justice for final resolution. In Corozal Bay, however, there was a resounding no, despite its area rep being U.D.P. minister Pablo Marin. Today, we asked the Health Minister whether the results meant that the constituents of Corozal Bay were losing confidence in him. Here’s his response.

Pablo Marin, Minister of Health

“I explained to the people of Corozal that this is my take that I do believe that we should go to the I.C.J. to finish this claim from Guatemala, but at the end of the day, it’s the individual. If you were there in Corozal, I didn’t have any tent, I didn’t have any banner out there, I didn’t have any people taking out people because I did believe that it was the people that supposed to decide that. Now when election time come, that is a totally different ballgame.”

“So you don’t interpret that particular way the referendum went as some sort of you losing support or influence on the voters?”

Pablo Marin

“No, [none] at all. I can say to the people and I think the people of Corozal can tell you all that I am the only minister or if you compare from the mayor, that what I have done for Corozal, you can see it. So I have proven to the people of Corozal that I will work and I will do what I will tell them I will do.”
