Ronald “Jack” Flowers Arraigned for Attempted Murder

Ronald “Jack” Flowers

Sixty-seven-year-old Frank Arnold is fighting for his life at the K.H.M.H., after he was stabbed multiple times by Ronald Flowers, who is known in the neighbourhood to be suffering from a mental health condition. The elderly man was exiting an unnamed alley off Neal’s Penn Road Extension in Belize City when he was attacked. Today, at the police press briefing, Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo explained the circumstances surrounding the stabbing incident.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City

“Police conducted an investigation and on yesterday’s date, Mister Ronald Flowers, twenty-nine years old, was charged for the crime of attempted murder, use of deadly means of crime and dangerous harm. Mister Arnold is still admitted in a critical condition at the hospital.”

“Has a motive been ascertained as to why the victim was targeted?”

“What we understand is that he was just riding his bicycle when he was attacked by the male person. There was no discussion amongst them; it was just an attack.”

“Any previous dispute?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“There is no previous dispute amongst them.”

“Sir, we got reports that Mister Flowers may be mentally ill or mentally challenged?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“What we understand is that he does visit the clinic on Faber’s Road on a daily basis to obtain medication, however, we do not have nothing to certify that he is a mental patient. I know that he was interviewed and when he was being questioned, he acted like a normal person; remember we mentioned that he does get his medication on a daily basis. However, we know that whenever he goes to the court, normally the magistrate orders for an evaluation to be conducted on the person so that the doctor can certify if he is a person fit to stand trial. But that has to go through a process.”

Flowers, who also goes by the alias Jack, was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford for three indictable offenses: attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm upon Frank Arnold. Flowers was unrepresented and due to the nature of the offenses, no bail was granted and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until August seventh, 2019.
