DNA Test Yields Inconclusive Result, Still No Sign of Annie Young

Anisha Young

A family’s search for the remains of their loved one who disappeared in December 2018 has hit another dead-end, following the inconclusive results of a DNA test conducted in Jamaica.  Twenty-three-year-old Anisha Young was reported missing on December ninth, several hours after attending an event with her boyfriend at a local nightclub on Newtown Barracks.  The former employee of Voyse International has not been seen or heard from since and her mysterious disappearance has led many, including her family, to believe that she was killed and disposed of somewhere in the Belize District.  During one of many search efforts in the wake of Young’s disappearance, remains were retrieved which were initially thought to be hers.  Those samples were later sent abroad for examination and according to the Belize Police Department, forensic experts could not determine the outcome of the test.

“Reference the suspected human remains that were found on the Old Northern Highway by Maskall Road which were suspected or believed to be that of Anisha Young, the portion of the remains that were found at the scene was collected by the crime scene technician and it was sent to the forensic laboratory for a DNA testing.  That sample was sent to Jamaica and the results came back about two weeks ago.  The result is mentioning that the sample that was sent, it cannot be confirmed that the remains are that of Anisha Young.  There was no match in regards to the testing that the persons at the lab did to try to get any DNA with the suspected human remains that were sent and the sample that was provided by the family, being the hair sample, a vocal swab and other small things that were sent for them to do the comparison.  Those comparisons were done along with the suspected human remains but there was no match. It does not necessarily mean that the remains are not for Anisha Young.  We have to bear that in mind, we are not excluding that it’s a possibility that it’s not her remains, you know.  But that portion of the human remains that was found, it is very difficult for anybody to do a DNA testing on that.”
